I’m attending a Medical Convention in Washington DC. It’s a general convention with lots of topics. Today I went to a conference entitled Physicians and Patients Combat Obesity. It was an interesting panel discussion including doctors , patients, nutritionist and fitness people. The biggest thing I picked up was the doctors really had nothing new to offer. No medications are approved. They all agreed on less calories and exercise more but how to actually get patients to change was not agreed upon. Especially between the the doctors and fitness / nutrition people. As expected doctors focused on research results and the others on what might actually work. A big thing was multivitamin research says you don’t need one if you eat a healthy diet. Well are people really eating a healthy diet ? The the fitness people were motivational. They advised extra protein , and supplements which besides omega 3’s and vitamin D was shot down buy the doctors. I guess that’s why I write this. I’m caught in the middle. Research isn’t right about everything but I don’t agree with frivolous things either.
