I can’t believe 4/5 doctors can’t estimate calories. In California restaurants put calories on the menu or in a booklet on the table. It’s a new law. It’s MA week so we took our Medical Assistants to Chili’s for lunch. Two doctors commented that another doc ordered a healthy lunch. It was a combo with 2 mini cheeseburgers and a salad. They estimated the calories at 500. Are you kidding me? You got mayo , cheese, buns, ground beef and salad dressing. I polled two other Doc’s and they thought it was lower in calories than their quesadilla. Wrong! It came out to 925 calories. I think calories on menu’s are a good thing. You see it is hard to estimate calories and portion size. When people tell me they eat healthy. I always ask them to actually do a three day diet history. It will surprise you! It surprises me. Next time we will check the calories before ordering.

It’s ok to indulge once in a while. I just make sure it’s worth it. I took my husband out to lunch for his birthday it was definitely worth it. We went to Underdog Wine Bar in Livermore,CA. It’s on the grounds of Concannon Winery. They serve small plates and wine flights. My kind of place. I love being able to taste things and not eat a lot. I had crab cakes on salad greens and a Pinot Grigio flight ( Three two oz servings ). I topped it off with a port and dark chocolate tart. It’s finally cool enough to sit outside. I loved it. Such a great date. Happy Birthday Honey.
I love to try new foods. When I find one with almost no calories , low carb and gluten free I get so excited. House Foods Tofu Shirataki Noodles fit the bill. First you will have to get over the smell. Do not eat them by themselves. Do in a soup or with a sauce. I did mine in a egg drop/ hot and sour soup concoction I made up for lunch. For dinner I used a peanut sauce. It worked well with both recipes. You must follow instructions. Rinse them because they smell like fish. Then put in the microwave for a minute and dry them. I read reviews where people complained of the texture but not a problem for me. Has anybody else used these? What did you think?
I’ve been trying some Vegan recipes for breakfast lately and driving my 9 y/o nuts! Its the smell! I made a tofu scramble yesterday with onion ,garlic, nutritional yeast and soy sauce. She pulled out the Lysol! This morning it was tofu scramble latin style with garlic ,onions and cilantro. She added the fan to the Lysol. Mom what happened to oatmeal? This stuff stinks!!! Oh well I guess she can eat upstairs. I’m keeping my tofu!!!
Ah its Sunday. Time for restoration. Time for my mind and body rest and restore. I love breakfast in bed. I have to make it but its good . Today I decided to remake a local favorite . In San Francisco Joe’s scrabble is ground beef, spinach tomatoes, and onions scrambled with eggs. It is usually served with sour dough bread. I made mine with gimme lean veggie sausage and egg whites. I served mine with Trader Joe’s whole flour tortilla with oats. MMM I think is was better than the original. Much less grease. Grease upsets my stomach. Now for my coffee and the paper. Ah I love Sunday morning’s in bed.
Work drives me crazy for many reasons. One of the main reasons is food. OMG! You would think it is a health maintenance organization we eat healthy. Not always the case. Lets start with cinnamon buns in the break room this morning. Lunch ,Mr Pickles sandwiches and potato chips. This is the average lunch provided for us during meetings. I forgot the cookies. Afternoon snacks were brownies provided by nurse. Did I mention candy bars by the dollar? We have several candy boxes floating around for school fund-raisers. How can I stay healthy around this? This was just today. I haven’t started on pot luck and pizza parties for meeting goals. It’s not easy. I have learned to say no,thank you. I bring my lunch and my snacks. We do have fruit sometimes but they put salt on it!! The patients bring gigantic coffee concoctions. Help me! I just keep saying no but some days its hard.
Is this a food blog or a weight loss blog? It’s hard to say. This is one of my problems . I love to eat! I love to travel . How to do that ,work, lose weight and be a mom is challenging. I took my daughter on our annual summer weekend trip to “The City“. This is the nickname for San Francisco. We live in the burbs about an hour away. This is my second time in a week going to The City to eat. On our mother-daughter trip we spend the night and do tourist stuff. We ride the metro to get around. My husband is from the area and doesn’t find this exciting. We do walk a lot which is great. This trip we did Fisherman Wharf and North Beach. I tortured my child by taking her to The Stinking Rose. She thinks it stinks! I love it! I’m a garlic fanatic. It’s still oozing out of my pores 2 days later. The motto is we season our garlic with food. I ordered Zuppa di Pesce. It’s a tomato based seafood stew. It was awesome. I did break my dairy rule and have a cannoli but we walked two miles to and from the restaurant. I think that was a good trade-off. I know I’d walk more if I lived in a major city. Mmm that’s an idea. If your a foodie San Francisco is the best.
