I love fresh figs. My friend down the street has fig trees on her ranch. She introduced me to fresh figs a few years ago. Prior to that the closest I’d come to a fig was a newton. I looked up fig recipes because I got a lot of them this year. I was feeling a healthy dessert last night. I found poached figs in wine. I used a Shiraz. This was awesome. I combined wine, honey and cinnamon with a hint of red pepper flakes in medium-sized saucepan and bring to a simmer, then reduce heat. Add figs and poach until soft about 15 minutes. Remove figs and reduce sauce to a syrup consistency. I added a few dark chocolate chips and almonds. It’s kind of my grown up trail mix. I will be making this more often. Mmm!

I like to try new recipes especially from other cultures. I found this spice mix for lentils. It was good but I had to change it up. I will eat it for lunch tomorrow with some ground turkey. It always taste better the next day once the spices settle.
Ok its recipe Saturday. Its raining in June! That’s rare for California. So I guess I’ll cook today.
Sweet Potato Pancake Recipe
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup mashed sweet potato
1 tsp nutmeg
2 egg whites
1 tsp ginger juice
1 tbsp butter
MIx dry ingredients in one bowl, Wet in the other then mix and griddle. This made 6 pancakes. According to Myfitnesspal.com recipe calculator
for 2 pancakes 238 cals, 44 carbs, 4 g fat, 10g protein. These aren’t supper sweet. I top it with Ginger People Syrup. The pictures are in reverse order. I’m new to this!!
I decided to make my own breakfast sausage. I bought a few and they had too much sodium or were bland. I’m finding making my own food taste better and is easy. This recipe has 97% fat free turkey,garlic, sage,cayenne pepper ,fennel and ginger. I added egg whites so they aren’t so dry. You can pan fry but I baked in oven for about 15 min. Taste great. I will have to add sundries tomatoes next time. This recipe has legs! Add whatever you want. Jalapeños , mango, spinach. The combinations are endless!
Ok I didn’t plan on posting this till later. I just took the picture. I’m getting the hang of things. This is a picture if breakfast. I call it my semi-homemade like the lady on food network. I had left over sweet potatoes and I added them to Schwann’s grilled mushrooms and onions, threw in a green chili and spinach and sautéed in olive oil. I server with scrambled egg whites ant it was the bomb:)

I’m a new convert to oatmeal. It was always too sweet or bland. I like meat and eggs for breakfast but decided to try it again. I tried several quick cooking brands but too they were too sweet or had that artificial sweeter taste. I don’t do artificial sweeteners. I tried McCann’s quick cooking and it’s great. It’s just oats and nothing else. It takes 2 minutes in the microwave. I wanted to add more protein so I decided to add Just Whites egg white power. I add 4 tsp to half cup oatmeal , then add 1 cup milk and 1 tsp honey. I microwave for two minutes and it’s piping hot and good. The eggs just make your oatmeal fluffy. I also add cinnamon or espresso powder maybe some raisins or figs. Be creative. This is my new favorite. Protein, whole grains what else could you ask for? Like Mr Food says try it you’ll like it.

I love it when the farmers market starts! We have the best vegetables near our town. I live in Central California and we grow everything. Beans, almond,fruit. Today I picked up bok choi. I cut it up steam in wok with low sodium chicken broth. I added a little salt and pepper and it’s on. My daughter gave me a thumbs up. I bought fava beans also. I found a great recipe.
